Bio

Originally from Perth, Western Australia Jesse Byrom-Carter has collaborated with many acclaimed US based artists including Grammy nominee Alan Ferber, Adam Rogers, Joe Lovano, Dave Pietro, Jim McNeely, Lenny White, Alex Sipiagin, Brad Shepik, Mark Whitfield jr, Alina Engibaryan, Vivienne Aerts, Rich Shemaria, Ed Partyka, Franck Tortiller (France) and Australian musicians such as Jamie Oehlers, Matt Jodrell, Sarah McKenzie, Mace Francis and Kristin Beradi among others.

As a bandleader he recorded his debut album ‘The Next Tomorrow Is Yesterday’ featuring Grammy nominee Alan Ferber and jazz guitar luminary Adam Rogers in December 2016. He has performed his original music at prestigious New York jazz clubs including Blue Note, Cornelia St Cafe, The 55 bar and Shapeshifter Lab. Jesse also co-lead the original modern jazz group M2B which completed a tour of Costa Rica in 2016, playing concerts and providing workshops to students.

As a sideman, Jesse has been involved with many US based jazz groups including the Balkan Peppers lead by guitarist Brad Shepik, The Eric Quinn Quartet, The Andres Lopez Group featuring Dave Pietro, The Rich Shemaria Trio, The Ken Ychicawa Group, M2B Quartet and The Mark McIntyre Quartet.  Recent recordings he has been featured on include the Andres Lopez Group’s ‘Ottrospection’ ,The Mack Walter’s Quartet self titled debut and WAYJO’s 2012 release ‘Get Happy’ featuring Jim McNeely.

In 2011 he was featured in a national live broadcast from the Heath Ledger Theatre in Perth, Western Australia for ABC jazz. The live performance included jazz pianist Jim McNeely, an alumni of the Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.   

In popular music, Jesse has collaborated with artists such as Shimashima, Maya Weiss (Australia), Meg Mac (Australia), Joanne Vance (Ecuador), Skip Robinson, Alcatraz (Australia) and award winning songwriter Phil Galdston.

His contributions to theater as an orchestra musician are also significant. In late 2017, Jesse was contracted by Gershwin Entertainment as upright bassist for the US national tour of ‘Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage’ to much critical acclaim. In March 2018 he was hired as bassist for The Palace Theatre New Hampshire’s production of ‘Grease’ followed by ‘Mama Mia’ in April.

Jesse Byrom-Carter continues to be a unique voice in the New York jazz scene, leading his own groups and collaborating in the studio and on stage with world class musicians.

Education

Jesse is a 2017 graduate of NYU Steinhardt's Jazz Studies program holding a Masters in Jazz Performance. He is also a graduate of WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) with a Bachelor in Jazz Performance.
